New Feature Launch: Desktop-Only Access with Screen Recording Protection
Testpress now has a secure desktop app that helps course creators prevent screen recording and protect video content. Built with Electron.js, this app maintains the same LMS interface but limits access to a distraction-free, browser-free learning experience—making your content safer and your students more focused.
You’re in the middle of teaching your best-selling course
You’ve poured hours into recording, editing, and fine-tuning every lesson.
But within days of publishing, snippets of your content are floating around Telegram or YouTube—recorded and shared without your permission.
Sound familiar?
You try browser restrictions. Watermarks. Email warnings. But they don’t stop tech-savvy students with free screen recording tools.
Here’s the deal: We built something better.
Introducing the Testpress Desktop Application—your new frontline defense to protect your premium video content.
Secure Desktop-Only Access for Your Courses
We’ve launched a dedicated desktop app for Testpress users. It’s a native application built using Electron.js that wraps the familiar LMS interface in a secure desktop environment.
What’s inside:
- A full-featured webview version of the Testpress LMS
- Advanced screen recording prevention on Windows and Mac
- Access restriction settings so courses can be marked “desktop-only”
- Automatic browser blocking for protected courses
It’s the same LMS your students already use—just in a more secure shell.
Why This Matters: More Protection, Fewer Distractions
Browser-based learning may be convenient, but it's also vulnerable.
With the new desktop app, you gain more control over who sees your course—and how.
Here’s what that means for you:
- Protect your revenue: Stop unauthorized screen recording with built-in prevention.
- Fewer support headaches: Students get a clean, familiar interface without distractions.
- Enforce secure access: Courses marked as “desktop-only” are inaccessible via browser.
Better performance: Reduced browser overhead means a smoother student experience.
Course creators like you can now sleep easier knowing your content isn't being quietly ripped off in the background.
How It Works (Step-by-Step)
Here’s how both students and admins use the new desktop feature:
For Admins:
Setting up Desktop-Only access is quick and simple. Just follow these steps:
1. Log in to your Testpress LMS dashboard. Head over to the chapter you want to manage under courses
2.Go to the Access Control section in the left menu and select your preferred platform as Desktop under Desktop access control
3. Click update changes. Testpress will now restrict browser access
For Students:
1.When students click on a chapter/course marked as desktop-only, browser access is blocked.
2. They see a notification message: This course can be accessed only via the desktop application. A download link for the app is also provided.
3. Student downloads and installs the Testpress Desktop App.
4. They log in with their usual credentials on the app.
5. The restricted course is now accessible only through the desktop application.

Not at all. It’s the same LMS interface—just in a secure app wrapper.
Can I still allow browser access for some courses?
